What is the disability of the French Paralympic boccia champion?

Nothing can stop France. With 26 titles under its belt, the host country of the Paris Paralympic Games has climbed to 5th place in the nations rankings. Only one medal separates it from the United States and Brazil. The competition continues this Monday, September 2, 2024, the first day of the school year marked by a series of new events across France. This morning, Aurélie Aubert contributed to France’s influence at the Paralympics. The 26-year-old is the first athlete to have won a gold medal in boccia against her Singaporean rival, Yee Ting Jeralyn Tan, presented as the favorite in the category. A real feat in the history of a discipline that is still very little known.

Aurélie Aubert: what disability does she suffer from?

Aurélie Aubert has suffered from cerebral palsy since birth. “I have little autonomy and I always need a third person for the acts of daily life. I also need to have an assistant for my sports activity”she explains in an interview with the Bleus handisport media.

Her gold medal is the result of rigorous training. According to our colleagues at France Info, the French para-triathlete practices boccia ten hours a week. Consulting a mental trainer, a psychologist, a hypnotist and a sophrologist is added to this champion training.
