. Road – Worlds – The Danes will not be complete in 2025 in Rwanda

The Danish Federation (Danmarks Cycle Union) announced this Monday that it would not enter the U19 and U23 national teams in the World Championships Road Cycling Festival 2025 in Kigali, Rwanda. This decision is based in particular on economic considerations, the travel and stay in Kigali representing an enormous cost, as well as on the specific preparations necessary to compete at altitudes between 1,500 and 1,700 meters, which again require large resources. Thus, the Danish Cycling Federation will only feature teams in the Elite Men and Women categories.

“Travel and stay in Rwanda represent a very high cost”

The director of the Danish Cycling Federation, Morten Bennekouexplained the reasons for this decision: “Sportingly, we are obviously very disappointed not to be able to participate in the U19 and U23 Worlds, both for men and women in 2025. But the trip and stay in Rwanda represent a very high cost. Each group of runners and the Additional staff needed entail significant expenses, in a year where the elite budget will already be reduced compared to 2024. However, this decision for 2025 does not necessarily set a precedent for subsequent years, where the road Worlds will also be organized overseas”.
