a former rider weighs in on Evenepoel and his future struggle on the Tour de

Remco Evenepoel will return in 2025 with huge ambitions, he who wants to win the Tour de and dethrone Tadej Pogacar, untouchable this season. The double Olympic champion this summer in will continue with the Soudal-Quick Step, he who is the leader of the team and who has been increased considerably in view of his very good results this year. And he therefore hopes to win the Tour de France next summer ahead of Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard. However, for Jan Bakelants, former professional runner and now consultant for Het Laatste Nieuws, this risks being difficult because of the transfer policy of the Belgian team led by Patrick Lefevere.

Evenepoel struggling at the Tour de France?

Bakelants assured that the recruitment of riders like Valentin Paret-Peintre, Ethan Hayter or even Maximilian Schachmann will not allow the Belgian star to pass a milestone in the 2025 Tour de France. He assures that Remco Evenepoel will have difficulty in the next Grande Boucle because it does not yet benefit from massive support. “In races where Remco Evenepoel can rely mainly on his physical qualities, he will continue to shine and reap victories. But in the big rounds, he will need massive support, and for now, that support is insufficient. Everything depends on the development of young people like Ilan Van Wilder or William Junior Lecerf. But we can't really count on current recruits to fill these gaps“, estimated the former rider, who therefore expects to see the Belgian rider be in tough next summer on the Grande Boucle despite his immense talent.
