Why could the presence of nearly 10,000 cycle tourists next August in Orléans be worth a lot?

Orléans will organize, from August 3 to 10, 2025, the federal cycle tourism week. The metropolitan council validated, Thursday, November 21, a subsidy of 100,000 euros for an event whose economic benefits promise to be juicy.

Rarely have the economic benefits of an event in Orléans been so promising. Illustration with the first projections of this federal and international cycle tourism week, from August 3 to 10, 2025, discussed, Thursday, November 21, at the metropolitan council.

Between 8,000 and 10,000 cycle tourists are expected for a week on the various loops in the Metropolis and beyond. The economic issue is not neutral. “The economic benefits are estimated at three million euros,” estimates Thomas Renault, metropolitan councilor and deputy for sports in the City of Orléans. Each participant spends on average, every day, between 90 and 100 euros.

Budget of 1.4 million euros

Not only that. “This event will be an asset for the economy of our territory for a week, continues Marie-Philippe Lubet, vice-president in charge of tourism. With the arrival of cycle tourists, the total amount of the tourist tax could exceed 1.9 million euros for the Metropolis in 2025.”

The elected representatives of the metropolitan council therefore had no difficulty, Thursday evening, in voting for a subsidy of 100,000 euros to support the organization of this federal week, the overall budget of which reached 1.4 million euros.

An envelope commensurate with the scale of this meeting where the logistics of welcoming, feeding and lodging the thousands of cycle tourists, from around twenty foreign countries, promise to be important. Particularly for housing.

A temporary campsite with 2,000 pitches

If 1,200 people will settle in lodges, if 500 participants will be housed in high schools in the metropolis, the major project will be the establishment of a temporary campsite on 20 hectares of developed agricultural land south of rue des Montées on the communes of Orléans and Saint-Jean-le-Blanc. It will be able to accommodate 3,500 to 4,000 campers on more than 2,000 sites. As for catering, 1,000 meals will be served each evening at CO'Met.

Closing ceremony in the city center

Gigantism will be invited, therefore, for a week in Orléans. And on the roads of the department since the loops will take thousands of cycle tourists to the forest of Orléans, to Pithiverais, Beauce, Dunois, Sologne, Sancerrois, Val de , Chambord… A closing ceremony will punctuate the event on Sunday August 10 with a parade in downtown Orléans of more than 4,000 cycle tourists.

Another boon for local commerce. This federal week could therefore bring him big results.
