Cyclo-cross. . X2O Trofee – Thibau Nys, on his fall: “It was a very violent shock”

The fourth round of X2O Bathrooms Trophy in Hamme, won by Niels Vandeputte (Alpecin-Deceuninck), ended on a bitter note for Thibau Nys (Baloise Trek Lions). While he was on his way to finishing in third place, the European champion fell heavily during the last lap. Fortunately, the damage is limited, and the rest of his season does not seem to be compromised. The Belgian rider, winner of the second round of the X2O Bathrooms Trophy last week and the third round of Super prestige end of October, can therefore hope to continue its excellent start to the season.

“I made too many technical errors”

After the race, he returned to his fall and this last lap: “It could have been worse. It was a very strong impact, but overall it could have been more serious. My knee stiffened a bit, and my neck took a slight hit. But it was still manageable It was a big impact, but nothing more. I went off course at high speed and I think I hit a pole with my handlebars or pedal. Then I was thrown into the air. At that point, my race was already over. the last lap, I made too many technical errors, probably because I was at the limit physically”.

Nevertheless, Nys assures that he feels good physically, which reassures him in view of the next deadlines: “I really wanted to do well. I felt pretty good. It wasn't an exceptional day, but I was at the level. I went into the last lap with the feeling that I could win, but I felt also that I was at the limit. It's frustrating to come away from this weekend without a victory after two good days. But now, let's look forward to next week. my physical condition is really on point”.
