“Personally, I had some setbacks during the season…”

After a very successful first lease between 2012 and 2019, the winner of the Giro 2014 and of The Vuelta 2016 made his return this year to the Movistar Team, after three seasons with Arkéa-Samsic and a positive test for Tramadol which earned him a disqualification from the Tour 2022. A return to the forefront that cannot be described as very successful, the native of Combita having gone through the season like a ghost due to numerous falls and injuries… with the exception of this famous 15th stage of the Tour of Italy arriving at Livigno, when he had victory stolen from him by the glutton Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates).

2024 was a great year“, he nevertheless estimated on the website of the Movistar. “Personally, I had a few setbacks during the season, starting with a corona infection, followed by a broken sternum and a broken metacarpal in my right hand. This misfortune, as well as a few other setbacks, meant that I was not 100 percent in the important moments. But we were able to get back on our feet and recover quickly, thanks to the team. The extension of the contract for 2025 aims to be more consistent, to participate in every race and to help Enric (Mas, editor's note) obtain the highest possible place in a Grand Tour. During the season we will also focus on scoring as many UCI points as possible and putting the team in the best position, as this is the final year of the promotion/relegation cycle“, he concluded, without really talking about his personal goals.
