Primoz Roglic is, without a doubt, one of the big names in the professional peloton today. But the Slovenian veteran admits that as he knew it not so long ago is completely over.

Primoz Roglic (35 years old) took 2nd place in the Saitama Criterium this Saturday, November 2. On the sidelines of the Japanese event, the Slovenian leader of the training Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe gave a conference in which he discussed the domination of Tadej Pogacar throughout the season.

Primoz Roglic: “A challenge for me to continue with the younger generation”

“In his current form, Tadej Pogacar is simply unbeatable. I love winning races, but the reality is clear: Tadej is stronger this year. You never know what next year has in store for us, maybe Tadej will be even better. But if I can be the best version of myself, I would already be very happy. The last time I came here to Saitama was in 2019. The way of cycling was completely different from today. It's a challenge for me to continue with the younger generation and adapt to this style of racing. But it's something that attracts me. »

Primoz Roglic: “Before, we just saved”

And the Slovenian champion continues his comparison between the two eras. “It’s huge. Previously, we just saved and spent energy at the right time. Today, every day is a good day. It's a completely different way of thinking, a completely different way of running. I think it's a challenge for the older among us. » And when he approaches his age, Roglic nevertheless wishes to specify the advantages: “As we get older, we lose points. It’s a fact that I’m not 20 anymore. But we also win on different levels, we gain experience from year to year. I'm always trying to improve a little. It's what makes you wake up. »
