Track Worlds | The French sprint confirms after the Games

After a fantastic Olympic Games, marred however by the betrayal of Benjamin Thomas, French track had a good chance of continuing its momentum in these World Championships. Mission accomplished in the first round of the first day of competition.

French track cycling on the roof of the lose

The Track Cycling World Championships began yesterday at the Ballerup Velodrome in Denmark. And for the occasion, the French sprint was in action in the men’s team sprint event. After bringing back exactly zero medals from the last Olympic Games, a first in the seven editions of the Olympic Games, the Blues signed a resounding double with the Worlds, in the space of just two months.

Indeed, the French team, made up of Rayan Helal, Melvin Landerneau and Sébastien Vigier had already set the tone in the morning during the series, by setting the fifth time. Opposed to a team from Great Britain, the Blues are nevertheless in the lead before the last round, with a lead of 142 thousandths. But the latter finally completed the race in 43”026, compared to 42”888 for the historic enemies. A splendid elimination in the first round, which contrasts with the inglorious past of this team. They who were subscribed to world medals not long ago, now fall by the wayside as soon as they enter the running. We enjoy it.

And the best person to talk about it is Sébastien Vigier, pillar of this team.

“We have regressed enormously. We went from an Olympic medal and a world vice-champion title in 2021 to struggling to have medals and, this year, to not having a medal at all. Today, we are overwhelmed” Sébastien Vigier

The icing on the cake, Marion Borras also remains far from the scratch podium, with a final 13th place. These Worlds have only just begun, and we already like them a lot.
