Cycling. Road – Jakob Fuglsang extends by one year… to retire in 2025

Despite his 39 years and 19 seasons as a professional cyclist, Jakob Fulgsang doesn’t seem to satiate. The Dane has signed a one-year contract extension with his team Israel-Premier Tech. However, he will retire at the end of the 2025 season, at age 40. Jakob Birdsong has a well-filled track record, including two Monuments won, Liège-Bastogne-Liège in 2019, and the Tour of Lombardy in 2020. He also twice won the Critérium du Dauphiné and participated in 12 Tour de (7th as best result).

“I am happy to be able to stay with Israel-Premier Tech and finish my career with this team next year. Jean Bélanger always had confidence in me and I really enjoyed our journey together. I am grateful to the team and Sylvan Adams for giving me this opportunity” declared Jakob Birdsong in a press release from his team.

Sylvan Adamsowner of the team, also spoke: “I’m thrilled that Jakob is returning for the final season of his successful career. Jakob told me he plans to go out with a bang, so I can’t wait to see what he can do next year, to add to his already impressive track record. Jakob has also taken our young and promising rider, Derek Gee, under his wing, and will continue to mentor Derek and others next year.”
