Primoz Roglic was forced to end its 2024 season earlier than planned. Following his Vuelta victorious, the Slovenian failed to regain his long legs and decided, with his team Red Bull-BORA-hansgroheto skip the Tour of Lombardy and focus on recovery. “I just wasn’t good enough anymore and it was necessary to finish the season, rest and start looking slowly towards the next season”said Roglicback in Slovenia for a charity event in his name.

Giro objective in 2025?

A 2025 season which will be important for the four-time winner of The Returnwho is at the end of his contract at the end of the season. Although it is still early to imagine a racing program for next year, Roglic was asked about his ambitions for 2025. “I will choose the races where Tadej (Pogacar) will not be there. On this subject we still have to agree”he joked about his compatriot, before adding more seriously: “We’ll see, I haven’t thought about the racing program in detail yet.” Since the Giro should pass through Slovenia again next year, he could aim for new success on the Tour of Italyafter his coronation in 2023. “But first I need to ‘reset’ and get some rest, then we’ll think about where I’ll race next year.”

If it seemed at first that the Giro does not fit into the plans of Roglic – who has repeatedly affirmed his ambitions to once again shine on the Tourbut also to win the Tour of Switzerland (the only major week-long race missing from his track record) – this option would now be on the table. An interesting choice, especially since it will undoubtedly be the only Grand Tour without Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates), who should aim for the double Tour de Vuelta.
