Cycling. Road – The last 3 kilometers rule will change in 2025…

From the 2025 season, a rider who falls alone in the last 3 kilometers of a stage will no longer be credited with the same time as the group to which he belonged at the time of his fall. So decided the International Cyclist Union (UCI), which modified the 3 kilometer rule for the next exercise. No change, however, in the event of a fall involving at least two riders, the latter always being classified in the same time as the group in which they were before finding themselves on the ground.

A timing tape installed at the 3 kilometer sign

From January 1, 2025, you will no longer have to fall alone in the last 3 kilometers of a stage race otherwise you will lose big in the general classification. To facilitate the work of marshals when it comes to reclassifying riders, “the timing service provider, in addition to the timing tape at the finish line, must provide a timing tape at the three kilometer sign (or at another distance accepted by the UCI in accordance with article 2.6. 027) to identify the riders in each group and their time gaps”is also indicated in the amended regulations.
