Cycling. A new mind-blowing record this Tuesday for Tadej Pogacar in Italy?

Tadej Pogacar is not yet done with his incredible season. The winner of the Tour of Italy (and 6 stages), the Tour de (and 6 stages), Liège-Bastogne-Liège, the world championships, the Montreal Grand Prix, the Strade Biache, the Tour of Catalonia ( and 4 stages) and the Tour d’Émilie still has two races on its program: the Trois Vallées Varésines this Tuesday and the Tour de Lombardie Saturday.

25 victories for Petacchi in 2005

In these two Italian races, the Slovenian still has a way of equaling and beating a crazy new record: that of the number of victories in a single season. Indeed, ”Pogi” already has 24 on the clock since March, so he could increase this total to 26 if he wins in his last two outings.

The record (since the early 2000s) belongs to Italian sprinter Alessandro Petacchi. During the 2005 season, the resident of the Fassa Bartolo raised his arms 25 times, winning in particular on Tirreno-Adriatico (3 stages), Milan San Remo, the Tour of Italy (4 stages) and even the Tour d Spain (5 stages).

An exceptional performance therefore for Pogacar since if we regularly see sprinters flirting with the mark of 20 victories each season (15 for the Belgian Tim Merlier in 2024)… it is extremely rare to reach such figures for a runner stage racing/puncher.
