Tadej Pogacar shone at the Tour d’Émilie by winning his first race wearing the world champion’s rainbow jersey. In Bologna, the Slovenian dominated the competition, winning by an impressive margin, while preparing for the Tour of Lombardy.

The Slovenian Tadej Pogacar offered a new demonstration during his first race with the rainbow jersey of world champion, by winning the Tour of Emilia this Saturday, October 5 in Bologna. At 26, Pogacar recorded his 23rd victory of the year in just 56 days of competition, an exceptional ratio that makes his 2024 season one of the most remarkable in cycling history.

Under intermittent rain and thick fog, the winner of the 2024 of and Italy once again eclipsed the competition, including Belgian Remco Evenepoel and his compatriot Primoz Roglic, defending champion and three-time winner of this event which serves as preparation for the last big meeting of the year, the Tour of Lombardy (October 12).

He already had a lead of 35 seconds after the first lap of the final circuit, contested on a wet road, an advantage which continued to grow, even exceeding two minutes at times.

On the finish line, after covering 215.8 km, Pogacar beat the Briton Tom Pidcock, 2nd, and the Italian Davide Piganzoli, 3rd, with a gap of 1 minute and 54 seconds. “I’m super happy to win this race with the world champion jersey on my shoulders. I felt really good today whereas, during the four days following my title, I was empty,” said he declared. “As the new world champion, I felt some pressure, but it was a great day,” insisted the Slovenian.

The UAE team phenomenon will be back in competition on Tuesday at the Trois Vallées Varésines, before embarking on the Tour of Lombardy, where he will aim for a fourth consecutive victory.
