Cycling. Road – Kasper Asgreen will have to undergo appendicitis surgery

While he was to participate in the Tour de Münster, Kasper Asgreen (Soudal Quick-Step) was taken to hospital during the night from Wednesday to Thursday. The Danish runner fell ill and went straight to the hospital, where doctors diagnosed him as suffering from appendicitis. As a reminder, appendicitis is an inflammation of the appendix which can occur at any age but especially before the age of 30, if left untreated, it can be fatal. The Dane will have surgery very soon.

The Tour of Münster… it was this Thursday!

The Tour de Münster – also called Sparkasse Münsterland Giro – is one of the major German races on the calendar, and the 19th edition of this German classic took place this Thursday. The weather conditions having been much milder than those of last year, we found a more classic scenario than in 2023 – during the victory solo of the young Per Strand Hagenes (Visma | Lease a Bike) – with a usual mass sprint through the streets of Münster. Perfectly seated in the wheel of Jordi Meeus (Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe) at the start of the sprint, Jasper Philipsen showed himself to be intractable and much faster than his compatriot in the final race to achieve his 9th success of the season. The Belgian thus finds his way to victory after a frustrating month of September, he who had not raised his arms since the Renewi Tour end of August.

Behind this duo, Milan Fretin (Cofidis) came to offer a very nice hat-trick to Belgium, the first country to achieve such a performance in this event since 2008 with a 100% German podium. The top 5 is completed by Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty) in front of the room Max Walscheid (Team Jayco-AlUla). The French did not manage to exist in this sprint, Jason Tesson (TotalEnergies) being the best of them in 17th place. Arnaud Démare (ARKEA-B&B HOTELS) did not find the opening and finished in a disappointing 29th position.
