If in the vast majority of matches the hierarchy was respected during this fourth round of the Coupe de France, the enormous surprise – or disillusionment – came from Granville. The Manche club which plays in National 2 – and which has had good runs in the Cup in the recent past – was eliminated at Deville Maromme (R2), in the Rouen suburbs (1-2).
Despite the departure of its coach Bruno Luzi “for personal reasons”, AS Villers (N2) was scared during this round against Gonfreville (R1). The Côte Fleurie club was trailing 1-0 at the break, and even saw their opponent have a 2-0 lead from the penalty spot, before turning the match around. Diallo even avoided penalties by scoring in the 93rd minute.
Also note the good performance of Argentan (R3) who won against Gisors (R1) during a long penalty shootout (2-2, 8-7 tab). The Ornais led 2-0 before being caught.
On the other hand, no new exploit for Little Thumb Mathieu. The Calvados club which plays in D3 was eliminated 1-0 by FC Saint-Julien (R2).
The draw for the 5th round of the Coupe de France will take place on Tuesday 1is October, at 7 p.m. at Crédit-Agricole in Caen. The meetings are scheduled for Saturday October 12 and Sunday October 13, 2024.
