“Muriel Furrer was transported to hospital by a rescue helicopter. She suffered serious head trauma and is in a very critical condition,” announced the UCI, which said it was “extremely concerned” in a press release.

Soggy roads

“At present, there are no proven facts concerning the course of the accident. Investigations by the competent authorities are underway,” added the authority.

The junior race took place on Thursday morning on wet roads, while heavy showers fell on Zurich throughout the day.
