From September 22 to 29, Zurich (Switzerland) will host the World Championships. In 2009, Switzerland also hosted the competition. The circuit, in Mendrisio, had allowed a selective race, crowning Cadel Evans in particular on the Elite Men’s road race. This year, it is again a hilly circuit that will present itself to the riders for the road race. The Time Trial, more rolling, will still contain a difficulty in the middle of the course.

The best women and men cyclists in the Junior, Espoir and Elite categories will meet in Zurich from 22 to 29 September 2024. Selected by their nation, they will line up to best represent their country and try to win the world title. Every year, the general public discovers in front of the races, Juniors and Espoirs, the names that will write the future of cycling. An unmissable event of the cycling season. And every year too, the best cyclists in the Elite categories meet to win the supreme title in their discipline. This year again, the competition will be tough with big names such as Tadej Pogačar already announced.

Punchers at the party?

The road race will feature a major difficulty to be climbed from two (Juniors Women) to seven times (Elite Men). The hill in the district of Witikon (1.9km at 6.3%) will probably be the judge of the race, hard enough to make a selection but perhaps too far from the finish line to allow a single runner to escape alone. Unless they call themselves Evenepoel, Van Der Poel Or Pogacar.

Unless there is a dominant rider in the final, the title could be decided between the few riders who have managed to hold on in the various difficult passages. A course conducive to a puncher with a good turn of speed.

A rather rolling time trial?

As for the time trial, it will be very open. Rather rolling, it will still be marked by the ascent of a hill in the town of Uetikon am See. A difficulty that could disadvantage pure rollers and, conversely, advantage climbers and puncheurs who are good rollers. A profile that will therefore make the event accessible to both time trial specialists and versatile riders.
