Excluded from Kosovo selection, Edon Zhegrova denies going to nightclub

Undisputed in Lille, Edon Zhegrova is supposed to be Kosovo’s number 1 offensive asset during this group stage of the League of Nations. But the gathering is turning into a nightmare for the 25-year-old striker. Present during the slap inflicted by Romania on Friday (0-3), the Lille player will not take part in Monday’s match against Cyprus.

The Federation announced that “the three footballers Arjanet Muric, Edon Zhegrova and Florent Muslija have left the national team training camp established by the coach and the Federation”. Following this announcement, the Kosovar channel Kanal10 mentioned the presence of the named players in a nightclub. A rumour that the former Basel player took it upon himself to deny via an Instagram story: “Hello everyone. Fake news! I will speak on the pitch, see you soon.” While the real reason for the forward’s dismissal remains unclear, his exclusion is still relevant.

Good news for Lille

In this international break where many players are returning to their clubs with injuries, the premature return of Edon Zhegrova is almost good news for Lille, who are coming out of a very busy month of August, between the play-offs to access the Champions League and the resumption of Ligue 1. The Kosovar did not take part in the first two matches of the French championship.

Author of a great performance during the defeat against PSG (1-3) and even scoring, Edon Zhegrova will undoubtedly be a key player in the team with Jonathan David at his side in attack, always present in the north of France. A godsend for the Dogues facing a new sequence with several Champions League clashes on the program against Sporting Portugal, Real Madrid, Atlético de Madrid and Juventus to name a few. Not to mention Ligue 1, even if on paper, the calendar is quite affordable (Saint-Etienne, Strasbourg and Le Havre).
