“I’ll be able to treat myself to a weekend at Disney”

Suffering from cerebral palsy due to a lack of oxygen at birth, Aurélie started boccia in 2010 and was not among the favourites for these Games. Her BC1 category is for people with the most severe disabilities. Interview withthe champion and her partner, Claudine Llop-Cliville, the assistant who, on the field, helps her by placing the ball in her hand and positioning their chair

Paris Match. What is the daily life of a boccia athlete?
Aurelie Aubert. We train two to three times a week at La Ruche, the structure, in Verneuil, in Eure where I live. Claudine and I have been a tandem for seven years now. We are always together, in training as well as in competitions. Our relationship is very close. Claudine is like my second mother. The mother that I no longer have, unfortunately. She is there when things are going well and when things are not going well. She is the one who guided me, accompanied me when I left the child structure for the adult one. We are a very close-knit duo.

You launched an appeal to a very special sponsor, Kinder, because you are a chocolate fan?
Yes, and they let me know that they would contact me by personal message. It would be good if boccia, the only sport adapted to severe disabilities and practiced by 3,600 people in France, could attract sponsors.
