“An incredible inspiration”, Los Angeles mayor praises Paris four years before the 2028 Games

Karen Bass, the mayor of Los Angeles, was amazed this Saturday morning at the Stade de France. More than 65,000 spectators gathered for the penultimate day of para-athletics, before the marathon on Sunday, she presented the bronze medal to the American universal relay, behind China and Great Britain. Before leaving the stadium, on RMC Sport, she talks about what she enjoyed about her Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris but also her ambitions for the Games that her city will host in four years.

Karen Bass, after a month of Olympic and Paralympic competitions, what do you remember about the Parisian organization?

I’m going to leave Paris tomorrow, Sunday, with an incredible sense of inspiration. These Games have been truly magnificent. I loved how the whole city got involved. We want to emulate that in Los Angeles in four years.

In the way of showing the landscapes, of involving all the inhabitants, do you already have ideas for LA 2028?

I already have a lot of ideas for Los Angeles. I have to say we have a wonderful, welcoming logo. We have to be open, share all the lessons learned here. I repeat the most important lesson learned here is how to involve the whole city, whether it is in a place where there are trials or where there are none.

If you could only bring back one souvenir from California, what would it be?

Without a doubt, presenting medals to Paralympic athletes as I just did was a great honour and a great privilege.
