AAfter Monday’s harvest – 8 medals including 5 gold – there was a famine on Tuesday, September 3. For the first time since the start of the Paralympic Games, the French delegation did not win any titles, having to settle for 4 medals: three for swimming, with silver for Ugo Didier and Alex Portal and bronze for Laurent Chardard, and one for table tennis with bronze for Matéo Bohéas.

In para-swimming, a few days after winning the 400m freestyle title, Ugo Didier took 2nd place in the 100m backstroke. The Frenchman was beaten by Belarusian Yahor Shchalkanau. As a reminder, Ugo Didier was born with club feet and suffers from weakness in both legs, which leads him to compete in the S9 category. The latter includes athletes with a coordination deficiency, weakness or even the absence of one of their limbs. The native of Yvelines is still entered in one event: the 200m medley which will be held on Thursday, September 5.

Alex Portal still overtaken by Ihar Boki

For his part, Laurent Chardard also brought home a medal for France. From the pool of the Paris La Défense Arena, the French para-swimmer won bronze in the 50m butterfly. A first for the Reunion native in this competition.
