“Are you ready?”, 7 years after serious incidents, Besiktas ultras want to fight Lyon

Seven years ago, on April 13, 2017, the Groupama Stadium was the scene of violent clashes between OL supporters and Besiktas fans, in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-final. Some 15,000 Turkish supporters traveled to France for this match classified as high-risk. And the evening quickly degenerated, even before the match kicked off. Brawls between supporters, pitch invasions and CRS charges: initially scheduled for 9:05 p.m., the kick-off was delayed by 45 minutes before calm returned.

The first incidents broke out early in the evening with clashes between supporters near the stadium. And the Turkish ultras of Besiktas seem determined to fight it out again during the next match between the two teams in the Europa League, scheduled for October 24, at the Groupama Stadium.

“Are you ready, Lyon ultras, for the 2nd round?” wrote Besiktas supporters.

The most famous Besiktas fan group is Çarşı, whose fighting skills are well-known in ultras circles. Çarşı was involved in the 2017 incidents at Groupama Stadium.
