Gradually, the smoke from the paper mill returns to the sky over Tartas. Since 8 a.m. this Friday, January 24, activity at the Ryam site has gradually resumed. Nearly twenty-four hours are needed for a complete restart of the wood cellulose and paper pulp plant.
The strike was launched on Wednesday January 22, from 2 p.m., to denounce the “inaction” in decision-making. “We are not saying that management is doing nothing, but not fast enough. We denounce the slowness in decision-making,” said Paul Bracq, CGT delegate, this Friday.
The union estimates that nearly 250 employees, out of the 320 at the Tartas site, followed the movement. During a new general staff meeting organized on Thursday noon, the extension of the strike was decided until Friday morning.
“Concrete measures”
Following further discussions with management on Friday morning, the general staff meeting held at 2 p.m. decided to lift the movement. “Our concerns have been taken into account. We obtained 90% satisfaction,” assures Paul Bracq.
-The CGT announces “concrete measures”, “a schedule of meetings with the right contacts” and “firm commitments” concerning wages, even before the annual negotiation meetings.
“We are maintaining pressure so that the question of the external impact of the factory's activities is taken into account,” concludes the CGT delegate, hoping for a “rapid deployment of means to find the origin” of olfactory nuisances, which are for some time more pronounced than usual.
