Due to tensions over emergency accommodation systems as well as forecasts of night temperatures felt in over the coming days, the prefect of Vaucluse has decided to activate emergency reception measures from today : emergency accommodation capacities as well as social monitoring systems are reinforced in the department.

An exceptional accommodation center has also been set up in .

The Mérindol municipal house, located 15 rue Paul Mérindol in Avignon, is made available by the Avignon town hall. Its activation for the benefit of people in vulnerable situations is made possible thanks to the mobilization of the services of the city of Avignon, the Integrated Reception and Orientation Service (SIAO), the Red Cross and Secours Populaire alongside state services.

With a maximum capacity of 43 places, this exceptional reception for homeless people is open from this evening, mardi 14 January 2025 has18 hyours, Then every evening de 17 hyours at 9 a.m. the next day. A daily assessment of needs will be carried out by State services allowing this reception to be maintained until the temperatures cool down.

The referral of people seeking emergency accommodation to this center is carried out exclusively by the SIAO, via a call 115emergency number available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

At the same time, the SIAO continues to ensure coordination and monitoring of emergency accommodation capacities as well as directing accommodation requests to all suitable structures. Staff from the SIAO will also be present, alongside volunteers from the Red Cross and Secours Populaire, in the Mérindol room.

Le prefetthanks all those involved and particularly calls on mayors to be extremely vigilant and to show solidarity by welcoming any person in difficulty who is reported to them.
