the essential
Since last year, the Agen club has been introducing as many young children as possible to the rules and practice of Cycling in the city, to the delight of all.
Since last April, SUA Cycling has been participating in the teaching of a program, “Knowing how to ride a bike”, organized by the National Education Department. In this sense, the club, chaired by Cyril Lazaro, has just completed a cycle with a school in Tonneins, representing in total the training of “nine classes and 250 children”.
From now on, Sporting has approached the City of Agen and two private schools, Félix-Aunac and Adèle de Trenquelléon. In this last establishment, “we are already in the fourth class trained”, specifies the president of the SUA section.
“It’s an opening to cycling”
The SUA Cycling is therefore participating in the implementation of this program over “six sessions” with “three educators”. With Adèle de Trenquelléon, the cycle ended recently with a day trip along the canal, from Agen to Sérignac-sur-Garonne. “Sometimes there are children who don’t know how to ride a bike. So we teach them how to do it. For the others, we work on more technical exercises to brake or make turns,” explains Cyril Lazaro.
There is also a more educational part with learning “Highway Code signs”. “The teachers are super happy. Children can come by bike, and this is also what Mayor Jean Dionis du Séjour wants,” remarks Cyril Lazaro.
It is not Isabelle Kopp, teacher at Adèle de Trenquelléon, who will say the opposite. “I am very happy. Some of my students had already done this program last year. Some people don't know how to ride before starting this cycle. It’s an opening to cycling,” explains the teacher, before continuing: “The students are delighted. This then allows them to cycle around the City. It's good to teach them, because it's becoming more and more rare today. It's something that tends to get lost, so that's great. »
For the SUA, it is also a win-win deal. In addition to a financial benefit, the club attracts new members thanks to this initiative. “We will reach 180 licensees in total. We have nearly fifty young graduates, and we are even moving towards certification of the training center for 2025-2026,” indicates Cyril Lazaro.
In this dynamic, the club has even just inaugurated a brand new clubhouse, “with offices and a weight room” in particular… We will come back to this in a future edition, but the wheel is turning in the right direction at the moment for Agenais cyclists.
