The AGM of the FFC was broadcast this morning on the channel of the Federation. The opportunity for me to spend a few hours listening to the different speeches of those who took the podium one after the other. And to tell the truth, I was hoping for passionate speeches, aimed at the world of French Cycling. Particularly the amateur world, which is dying in silence, but not only that…
Instead, I felt like I was attending job interviews, where everyone had the sole mission of explaining why they were great, and especially why their track record was exceptional.
Stunned, since this morning I have continued to wonder how we can seem so disconnected and far from the reality on the ground. From this daily suffering of clubs and organizers. Of all those who bring cycling to life more than they talk.
I will go no further, lest the shock of the moment cause my words to overtake my thoughts. Instead, I will return to an intervention, that of Xavier Jan, the president of the LNC. The only one that ultimately gave me the impression of giving a speech that stuck to reality. Also the only one which, in my opinion, raised the debate where it should have been, that is to say around the major issues surrounding French cycling.
Thank you to the president of the League, who also had the merit of (almost) making me swallow my coffee wrong, with his formula on the “shifting sands of the desert”. Thanks also to him for allowing me to ultimately take something other than one of the messages sent to me by one of the participants as the highlight.
“When do we eat?” » Three simple words which seemed to convey that boredom was as present in the room as behind the screen…
