Thomas Voeckler will have had a great year in 2024 as coach of the French Cycling team, who saw Valentin Madouas and Christophe Laporte bag a medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games behind Remco Evenepoel during the road race. But while the former professional runner had a smile on his face during this race, he also expressed a very big regret about another French runner, namely Julian Alaphilippe. Speaking in an interview with Cyclism Actu, Voeckler expressed regret over the end of Alaphilippe's season and the way it ended for the Frenchman, who crashed at the World Championships in Zurich, Switzerland.
Voeckler's regret regarding Alaphilippe
“To come back to Julian, what saddens me for him is above all the way in which he ended his 2024 season. On a road, along a field in Zurich after 60 kilometers. He would not have without probably not beaten Pogacar, but he could have finished his season differently than like that“, confided Voeckler, very disappointed with the fall suffered by the French star, who ended his adventure within the Soudal Quick-Step in a bitter manner, while he dreamed of pocketing a third world champion jersey. Voeckler had dreamed better for Alaphilippe at the end of the 2024 season.
