The latter will therefore not have survived the terrible fall that occurred on March 27, 2024, on the occasion of the 78th edition ofAcross Flanders… The organizers of the Flandrian classic have in fact made the decision to remove this difficulty from the route of the event in 2025, planned next Wednesday, April 2, four short days before the Tour of Flanders. The danger does not come from the mountain itself, but from the descent which precedes it, in which Wout Van Aert (Visma | Lease a Bike) had notably fallen heavily this year along with Mads Pedersen, Jasper Stuyven (Lidl-Trek), Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty) or Anthony Turgis (TotalEnergies).

The approach to this climb is in fact via a very fast road which narrows significantly, a cocktail conducive to accidents with the growing nervousness at this key moment of the race. As a reminder, the consequences of the fall of Wout van Aert had been dramatic for the Belgian, with several fractures to the collarbone, sternum and several ribs, as well as a pulmonary contusion. He had surgery the next day and was only able to return to competition two months later. Other changes to the 2022 route,The paved area of Varent has also been removed, as has the climb of Kortekeer, replaced by a second climb of Berg ten Houte.
