Clearly, Jules Simon seems to be a Saturday man in the Coupe de France. 4th in Nommay then 2nd in Pierric during the opening rounds of the National Cup, here he is who once again takes 2nd place, this Saturday, in Troyes, only ahead of Aubin Sparfel (see ranking). “For now, the second days are more difficult for me… I hope to correct that tomorrow”confirms for DirectVelo the one who respectively ranked 9th and 8th on Sunday, until then, in this Espoirs category.
“I was a little afraid of this start because I only started on the second row. I immediately managed to make an effort to get back into position.”. Very quickly, the AS Bike Racing rider found himself in the company of the two friends from Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale DT, Léo Bisiaux and Aubin Sparfel. “I was afraid they were going to do a team race so I wanted to take the lead. But in the end, they rather raced against each other so it was good for me, I didn't suffer any breaks”. The 18-year-old runner even “tried to pass” when he could, to settle into his own rhythm. “I saw that it was going well technically”.
“I ALWAYS WANT MORE”
Then Aubin Sparfel accelerated and Jules Simon was unable to respond. “I took a little burst and then tried to maintain the gap. I didn’t give up in my head”. But he never came home. “I’m disappointed to be 2nd. I think I should have run smarter. Technically, I surprised myself. I'm happy, despite everything, because I'm progressing quickly and I'm only Hope 1. But I always want more. I want to win, otherwise I wouldn’t ride a bike”.
Another reason for satisfaction: his good behavior on muddy terrain which he does not usually like. “I worked a lot with my mental coach to approach these muddy races with a little more serenity. I see it’s paying off today, that’s good”. It is now up to him to confirm this during future deadlines.
