The journey of Tour of the Alps 2025, which will take place in Italy from April 21 to 25, was unveiled this Thursday by the organizers at Riva del Garda Congress Centre. Et the least we can say is that this route is once again designed for climbers! This stage race, a usual preparation event for the Tour of Italyis filled with mountain passes every year. This 48th edition will be no exception to the rule, with more than 14,700 meters of altitude difference (i.e. 1,500 more than last year) to overcome over a total of 739 kilometers and 5 days of racing. The route will take runners from San Lorenzo Dorsino to Lienz. The route uses the characteristic formula of Tour of the Alps : climbs below 2,000 meters altitude, compact stages and reduced travel time between the different stages.

5 days of racing: 5 mountain stages
The race will start in San Lorenzo Dorsino where climbers will immediately be put to the test with climbs like Campo Carlo Magno and Passo del Durone on the programme. However, it is the next day that the biggest changes in altitude await them. Monte San Pietro will be an early obstacle, but the real challenge is on the final circuit. In Sterzing/Vipiteno, the runners will complete two laps of 16 kilometers. Each lap includes the climb of Obertelfes/Telves di Sopra (4 km at 7%), followed by a technical descent ending 8 kilometers from the finish.
The third stage will be marked by the unprecedented ascent of Untermoi/Antermoia. After a rapid descent on wide roads, the riders will face the imposing Furkelpass/Passo Furcia before starting a 21 kilometer circuit. The justice of the peace? The Vierschachberg/Monte Versciaco, a real test of 5 kilometers. Stage four will include three key climbs: Anras Oberried, Tessenberg and Kartitscher Sattel. Finally, the race will end in Lienz, with a 5th stage with a scenario similar to the 2022 edition, where Romain Bardet had won the general victory, while Thibault Pinot had imposed itself. Juan Pedro Lopez (Lidl-Trek) won the general classification in 2024 ahead of Ben O’connor (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team).

Tuesday April 22 – step 2: Mid-Lombard – Sterzing-Ratschings/Vipiteno-Racines, 178 km (3,750m)
Wednesday April 23 – step 3: Sterzing-Ratschings/Vipiteno-Racines – Innichen/San Candido, 145 km (2,750m)
Thursday April 24 – step 4: Sillian – Obertilliach, 160 km (3,200m)
