It was with a more than satisfactory result that the last general assembly of the Roue Libre association took place which carries the La Casartelli cyclosportive event, organized as a ritual for 28 years in memory of the Italian Olympic champion who died at the Col de Portet d'Aspect on the road to the Tour de France in 1995. A priesthood even for the dozen volunteers who constitute the hard core of the association between duty of memory and renowned sporting race which does not fail to salute, in very location of the memorial stele, each year La Fondazione, Italian side, and the organizing team of the Tour de France. With its three events: “La Casartelli”, “La Découverte” and “La Marco”, which took place this year on September 8 and which brought together more than 400 runners, confirming its status as a flagship event on the calendar counting as the Occitanie trophy for cyclosportives FFC 2024 and which appears in the Top 10 national cyclosportives. “A satisfaction for us despite the competition from other events which attracted a number of riders with very different profiles with its pieces of bravery, including its seven passes worthy of the Tour”, evokes Christophe Lachaise the vice-president. “An extremely positive year which leads us to look forward to the next one.” In 2025, it will be the thirtieth anniversary of the death of Fabio Casartelli, for a 29th edition which should take place on Sunday September 7. “We want to mark this event. It’s very important for us.” Also, faced with its prospects, so many symbolic issues strong in emotions but also heavy in organizational terms, the association intends to renew itself while the president, Joelle Fauré who supported it at arm's length, expressed her wish to withdraw. “The task has become too heavy,” concedes Joëlle Fauré. But she, like the volunteers, encouraged by the municipality, wants to pass the torch so that the ordeal continues. “I am calling on all goodwill. To strengthen the board of directors, the presidency but also the volunteers who work to security, marking, logistics”. A next decisive assembly must take place soon.
