Led by the new president Nicolas Grosso, the “time trial” is back.
On Sunday October 27, many challenge enthusiasts will meet at the Rampe des Arabes for the great return of the “time trial”, standing start, organized by the Guidon Sportif Sétois.
They will thus reconnect with a tradition that has long been respected on this unique island. “The club has existed under this name since 1936 and traces of the race were found in the 1940s”explains Nicolas Grosso. “In the 80s, there was the “tournament”, avenue Victor-Hugo, and in the afternoon we continued with the “time trial”. This race has always existed, perhaps even before the creation of the club. »
In the Sétois spirit
Having disappeared in the early 2000s, the event will therefore make a comeback. And it won’t spare the runners’ thighs… “It’s a bit crazy, I think it fits well with the spirit and identity of the Sétois, who we often say are unique! » The start, stopped, will be taken at the Rampe des Arabes, for two kilometers of ascent with passages at 21% and an arrival at the Croix de Saint-Clair. The ranking will count for the Challenge des Montées de l’Hérault FSGT and, for fun, each winner of the six categories will close the day with a road race. When we love…
Passing the torch
For Nicolas Grosso, who took over as president of the club this season, this will be the first organization. “In fact, it was Pascal Ferraro who spoke to me about it, he suggested that I bring this race up to date. I like “vintage” Cycling, and since the city was up for it, we went! I would also like to say that the change of presidency is a passing of the torch between two friends. “Pascalou” has green and white blood and is still with us. I’m just going to continue what we were doing with him, keep the dynamic that has existed for four years. »
