The 5th edition of Tour de Guangxi set off this Tuesday morning, on the other side of the globe, in China. On the program for this 1st stage, a circuit around the town of Fangchenggang, for a total of 149 kilometers and a finish promised to fast men. And the expected sprint took place, with the victory of Lionel Taminiaux (Lotto Dstny)! His first success in 2024… and the first in the WorldTour of his career.

A very tight sprint

At the end of a very special sprint, on very wide roads, the Belgian of Lottery Dstny won with a lead over his compatriot Gijs Van Hoecke (Intermarché-Wanty). Juan Sebastian Molano (UAE Team Emirates) took 3rd place. WhileEthan (Israel-Premier Tech) et Max Kanter (Astana Qazaqstan) complete the top 5.

Thanks to its success, Lionel Taminiaux therefore takes the lead in the general classification, with 4 seconds ahead of Gijs Van Hoecke. Note that Stan Dewulf (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) and Rune Herregodts (Intermarché-Wanty), who formed the breakaway of the day, both took bonuses along the way and found themselves in 3rd and 4th positions, 5 seconds behind. In the peloton, Jhonatan Narvaez (INEOS Grenadiers) et Robert Stannard (Bahrain Victorious) managed to scrape a small second.
