Cycling. Tour of Guangxi – Route, profile, favorites… the 5th Gree-Tour of Guangxi

The men’s UCI WorldTour calendar ends this week with the Gree – Tour de Guangxiplayed from October 15 to 20. Created in 2017 and back last year after three years of successive cancellations, the Chinese event will celebrate its 5th edition with six days of racing across the province of Guangxi, for a total distance of more than 1000 kilometers. The opportunity for many riders to show themselves one last time before the end of the season, and for certain teams to chase UCI points. The course offers up to 5 more or less hilly stages which could just as easily end in a sprint or smile on the daring depending on the race scenario. The queen stage which should decide the general classification will be followed Saturday, with the traditional arrival at the top of Nongla Scenic Area (3.3 km at 6.6%), the only one that can decide between the best punchers/climbers. This is where Milan Father (Visma | Lease a Bike) had built its success on the 2023 edition.

A very open general, the sprints too

To hope to succeed the Dutchman – present in China to try to become the first runner to achieve the double – some favorites stand out even if the world’s elite are logically missing. Runners like Pavel Sivakov, Tim Wellens (UAE Team Emirates), Lennert Van Eetvelt (Lotto Dstny), Joseph Blackmore (Israel-Premier Tech), Luke Plapp (Team Jayco-AlUla), Jan Hirt (Soudal Quick-Step), Victor Lafay, Alex Baudin (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale), Emanuel Buchmann (Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe), Ivan Sosa (Movistar Team), Quinn Simmons (Lidl-Trek), Jhonatan Narváez (INEOS Grenadiers), Max Poole, Oscar Onley (Team dsm-firmenich PostNL), Alexey Lutsenko or even Lorenzo Fortunato (Astana Kazakhstan Team) have the qualities to win, even if we will have to see how fit everyone is after this long trip to China.

As for the sprinters, the field is not very good despite the opportunities for massive racing. Among the main headliners, we find in particular Marijn van den Berg (EF Education-EasyPost), Fabio Jakobsen (Team dsm-firmenich PostNL), Ethan (Israel-Premier Tech), Juan Sebastian Molano (UAE Team Emirates), Milan Fretin (Courtesy), Luke Lamperti (Soudal Quick-Step), Max Kanter, Gleb Syritsa (Astana Kazakhstan Team), Alberto Bruttomessi (Bahrain Victorious), Jasper Stuyven (Lidl-Trek), Pierre Gautherat (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) or Iván García Cortina (Movistar Team), taking a very broad approach.
