Winner in 2023, Andrea Bagioli (Soudal Quick Step) will put his title back on the line. To collect this trophy, the Italian had settled in a sprint Marc Hirschi (UAE Team Emirates) and Alex Aranburu (MovistarTeam). The Swiss is in excellent shape at the end of the 2024 season. It is a safe bet that he will want to take advantage of this positive spiral to increase his confidence before the big meeting of the Tour of Lombardy!

The detailed route of the Tour of Piedmont 2024

The route for the 2024 edition is very different from that of the previous edition. It has 30 more kilometers and the departure cities (Valdengo) and arrival (Borgomanero) are different. The route climbs three listed difficulties: the Colma Pass (altitude: 942 m, summit 62 km from the finish) then two shorter climbs: Cremosine (summit 40.8 km from the finish) and Traversagna (summit 24.1 km from the finish). The positive altitude difference is close to 1700m, which is not very significant over a distance of 182 km. The runners will cross the finish line and complete a final circuit of 11.2 km, quite hilly. The last 3 kilometers are slightly uphill.

The Tour of Piedmont 2024 takes place on Thursday October 10, 2024 between Valdengo et Borgomanero with a fictitious start at 12:15 p.m. and a real start launched at 12:25 p.m., after a neutralized start of 4.8 km. Arrival expected around 4:30 p.m. The event will be broadcast on Eurosport from 2:15 p.m.

Fast men in the finale?

At the start of Valdengo, many riders will dream of victory. It must be said that the course lends itself to all kinds of scenarios. Neither too hard nor too easy, 182 km to reach Borgomanero will offer the peloton a positive altitude difference of 1638 metersbut above all difficulties conducive to a nice match between sprinters and punchers. After 110 km of relatively calm racing, you will have to climb the first difficulty of the day. With its 8.6 km at 5.5%, the Colma Pass will be the most complicated climb. After the descent, the runners will attack the climb towards Cremosine (4.9 km at 2.9%), then that of Traversagna (3.1 km at 4%) after a short transition. If the strong men want to eliminate the fastest, they will have to be active from the first ascent and bet on a race of attrition, because then there will only be 23 km left. The peloton will pass the line for the first time at Borgomanero before the bump of Maggiora (0.8 km at 5.6%). Located 7.5 km from the line, this last hill could prove decisive if some still have the legs to mount an offensive. The peloton will then plunge towards the finish for a finale which promises to be indecisive!

With “only” the Colma Pass in main difficulty, two racing patterns can emerge. A scenario identical to last year where Andrea Bagioli had settled Marc Hirschi et Alex Aranburu in a three-way sprint or a skimmed peloton sprint? Kaden Groves looks like a scarecrow and there is a lot of chance that his team will work to roll out the red carpet for him at Borgomanero.
