This Wednesday, the Spanish cycling team Movistar formalized the arrival of Pablo Castrillo, who won two stages during the last Vuelta.

Movistar makes a very big move on the cycling transfer market. This Wednesday morning, via his account X (ex-Twitter) official, the Spanish cycling team has formalized the arrival of the young Spaniard Pablo Castrillo, now only 23 years old. The latter revealed himself during the last edition of the Tour of Spain during which he won, to everyone’s surprise but in true strength, a total of two stages. A then resident of the Equipo Kern Pharma training, with a contract which expired at the end of this year 2024, he had seen his exploits, on the roads of the Vuelta, attract the eye of the biggest teams in the WorldTour peloton. His name would also have been circulated among the Ineos Grenadiers, but also at Astana, Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe and Cofidis. It was therefore ultimately Movistar which was able to convince the adventurer-climber to sign a contract for a period of three seasons.

Castrillo following in the footsteps of his big brother

In 2018-2019, his big brother Jaime had already been a rider with the same Spanish team. In the press release formalizing his transfer, Pablo Castrillo shared his joy: “These last weeks have been a big step forward for me as a person, an important boost for my sporting career which has resulted in this contract with a WorldTour team like Movistar Team. They are the benchmark of Spanish cycling and it is always a special excitement to ride for this team. There were a few weeks to assimilate what was achieved in La Vuelta and in this 2024 seasonwhich I consider to be very regular on my part. These two victories, then finding myself at the home of my new team, with this impressive Telefónica headquarters… It was all very intense and I will not forget it. The people who are close to me and who have explained to me what the team is like have given me a lot of confidence regarding this signing.
