The French team had already achieved a hat-trick on Monday, September 23, at the world para-cycling road championships in Zurich (Switzerland). It was during the men’s time trial event in the C4 category. She repeated the feat on Thursday with the same actors: Gatien Le Rousseau, Mattis Lebeau and Kévin Le Cunff finished the race in this order after escaping in threes, before crossing the finish line together.

“Mattis and Kévin were the strongest, it was nice of them to let me win. We proved that in C4 was the strongest nation”reacted Gatien Le Rousseau, who took fourth place in the road event at the Paralympic Games where the C4 and C5 categories were mixed. Kévin Le Cunff, winner of the road race at the Tokyo Games in 2021, won silver in Paris.

Monday, on the time trial, Mattis Lebeau was ahead of Kévin Le Cunff by more than sixteen seconds, crowned in the time trial of the Paralympic Games this summer, and by more than a minute Gatien Le Rousseau, who took silver Paralympic in Paris.

The different categories

The para-cycling road world championships give rise to several races depending on the handicap categories.

C – Cycles: conventional bicycles with adaptations if necessary

T – Tricycle: three-wheeled bicycle

B – Tandem: visually impaired athletes and pilot

H – Handcycle

Categories C, T and H are divided into different sports classes (1-5, 1-2 and 1-5 respectively), with the lower number indicating higher impairment.
