This Wednesday, September 25, Max Walscheid won the Omloop Van Het Houtland 2024 in a sprint. The 77th edition of the autumn classic in West Flanders (Belgium) was held in parallel with the World Championships in Zurich with a great field of sprinters. And it was in a massive race that the victory was played out in the streets of Lichtervelde. Beaten by the Team Jayco AlUla rider, his teammate Dylan Groenewegen finished 2nd ahead of Pierre Barbier (Philippe Wagner/Bazin) 3rd.

Summary of the Omloop Van Het Houtland 2024:

The breakaway of the day composed of Michiel Lambrecht, Bogdan Zabelinskiy, Tijmen Eising, Gianni Marchand, Alex Vandenbulcke, Adam Lewis and Max Kroonen had a maximum lead of just over 2 minutes on a peloton determined to fight for victory. Resisting the return of the peloton for a long time, the 7 then 6 leaders were finally caught 4.5 km from the finish under the impetus of the Lidl Trek team. Despite a fall 2.5 km from the finish, the group of favorites rushed towards the finish at full speed but it took a photo finish to separate the two fastest of the day. In the end, it was Max Walscheid who won ahead of his teammate from Team Jayco Alula, Dylan Groenewegen, the Frenchman Pierre Barbier took a nice 3rd place. The German won his 13th professional victory.
