The Olympic cauldron above the Tuileries, the metal horse that splits the waters of the Seine, the red Phryges that carpet the capital… Its inhabitants, marked by these images, refuse to turn the page and wish to perpetuate the “spirit of the Games” by keeping these emblems of Paris 2024. While the debate rages on the possible perpetuation of the Olympic rings on the Eiffel Tower, other symbols already have a future mapped out. From the Phryge mascot to the sand of the beach volleyball court, including the metal horse from the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, many of the highlights of this Parisian edition will be given a second life.
Since June, the giant Olympic rings have overlooked the Eiffel Tower. While Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris, wants them to remain there at least until 2028, this choice is divisive. Many believe that these symbols “distort” the famous silhouette of the Iron Lady. The International Olympic Committee, owner of the logo, has nevertheless validated this extension, arguing that it is a “historic moment” that must be perpetuated.
On the other hand, the Agitos, symbols of the Paralympic Games installed on the Arc-de-Triomphe, could find a new home at the headquarters of the Île-de-France regional council, if we are to believe the words of Valérie Pécresse, president of the region.
