The biggest hits on Netflix aren’t necessarily linked to new releases. Arriving on the platform at the beginning of the month, the complete Prison Break series suggested a great success. And the streaming service’s subscribers didn’t disappoint our expectations, since the series is now the most watched in the world!
The American institute Nielsen, which publishes a weekly ranking of the most watched series on platforms, confirms that Prison Break currently occupies the number 1 spot, with 1.6 billion minutes watched worldwide.
This total surpasses the final season of Umbrella Academy, number 2 in the ranking with 1.46 billion minutes viewed over the last seven days. Note that in France, Prison Break is not the most watched series, since it only ranks fourth in the Netflix Top 10 this week.
The arrival of the series on Netflix is the reason for this sudden resurgence of interest, and it will be interesting to follow the evolution of the ranking in the coming weeks. Let us recall that the series was broadcast from 2005 to 2009, then in 2017 with its season 5 designed as a direct sequel. Prized mainly for its first season (the following ones have been criticized a lot), Prison Break remains very popular today in the world.
