An evening dedicated to electro, with “Paris is a party” as the slogan, in homage to Ernest Hemingway’s cult work. “I’m very happy, we went all the way. It’s a little over two years of work with all the teams… It’s the biggest work of my life so far. (…) I had carte blanche” confided director Thomas Jolly with emotion on France 2. Despite the pouring rain, Jean-Michel Jarre, Etienne de Crécy, DJ Cut Killer, Kavinsky, Breakbot, Kungs, Ofenbach and Cassius thrilled the audience by playing their greatest hits in front of 7.7 million French viewers. But electro also gave way to other musical moments like Santa’s breathtaking opening with Johnny Hallyday’s “Vivre pour le meilleur” or Anderson .Paak’s performance from a Los Angeles skate park.
A moving farewell
During this closing ceremony of the Paralympic Games, the public was also able to say goodbye to the famous Olympic cauldron, installed in the Tuileries Gardens. Although it was unable to take flight due to the weather conditions, the cauldron was entitled to its own segment with a touching performance by Amadou and Mariam. Accompanied by four musicians, the Malian musical duo revisited the cult song “Je suis venu te dire que je m’en vais” by Serge Gainsbourg in a new version, in front of the ephemeral monument. “Je suis venu te dire que je m’en vais / Et tes larmes n’aurait rien change” sang…
