The LFP elections have never been so much talked about. While French football is going through a serious governance crisis, it has been the subject of a new controversy this week. At issue is a “sponsorship deal” worth 20 million euros between the League and Qatar as part of BeIN Sports’ offer for the TV rights to Ligue 1 and Ligue 2.
While it remains unclear how the advertising for “Qatar Tourism” will be structured for L1 and L2 clubs, the president of Bastia, 2nd in Ligue 2, has already expressed some reservations: “There is no logic in us displaying Qatar either, excuse me. I have nothing against them but why would I put up a “Long live Qatar” or “Visit Qatar” sign? They are not my sponsor today,” Claude Ferrandi told Radio Alta Frequenza.

For Daniel Riolo, it is difficult not to see the influence of Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, president of PSG and BeIN Media Groupe, behind this agreement with the League: “We know that Vincent Labrune is in Nasser Al-Khelaïfi’s right pocket. But this is too much, it’s tiring,” he sighed in the After Friday on RMC. And added: “It is Nasser Al-Khelaïfi who is the real president of the League, he is the one who imposes everything.
