Celebrating 80 years of the founding of the Vietnam People’s Army in Thailand

Bangkok (VNA) – The Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand and the Office of the Vietnamese Defense Attaché in Thailand solemnly held a ceremony on December 18 to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People’s Army and the 35th years of National Defense Day (December 22, 1989 – December 22, 2024).

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Pham Viet Hung said that the Vietnam People’s Army has continued to develop, always demonstrating the courage of a revolutionary army, born from the people and fighting for the people, of an absolutely loyal and trustworthy fighting force of the Party, the State and the people.

In the new period, the Vietnam People’s Army continues to promote its heroic tradition, always being present on the front lines against the COVID-19 pandemic, helping people overcome the consequences of natural disasters, shouldering the task of research and rescue…, he added.

He reaffirmed that the Party and State of Vietnam advocate economic and social development in conjunction with national defense, security and foreign affairs; closely coordinated defense and security activities with external activities. The Vietnamese army actively participates in United Nations peacekeeping activities, international cooperation in the fields of non-traditional security, humanitarian assistance, search and rescue and combating the consequences of war, actively contributing to the work of building an environment of peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and in the world.

Regarding military and defense cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand in recent times, Colonel Pho Trieu Cuong, Defense Attaché of Vietnam in Thailand, said the two sides maintain and promote cooperation with significant developments extending into many areas.
