The town of Summerside in Prince Edward Island has a new municipal councillor.

Ken Trenholm was elected Monday evening with 232 votes in his district of Hillcrest-Platte River.

He obtained 36% of the votes ahead Pete Peters and the former mayor Basil Stewart.

Ken Trenholm is an advocate for road safety, particularly for pedestrians and cyclists. He also criticized the Summerside municipal council’s decision to move the homeless shelter to the street. Frank Mellish.

He succeeds Barb Gallant who was expelled from the city council on June 18 after missing three consecutive council meetings, following a theft from a veterans’ organization. She pleaded guilty in August to one count of theft over $5,000.
