There are happy circumstances that push the entrepreneur to always question himself. This is a bit of the story of MK3D, a company co-directed by Karim Curtheley and Vincent Lapierre, a friendship born in the heart of the Chalonnaise industry. MK3D was originally the gift of a 3D printer given by Vincent to his friend Karim, and the beginning of a beautiful entrepreneurial story. Keen to discover what’s going on behind the trendy 3D printing product, Karim, whose family history is made up of assembling and dismantling everything he found on hand, is looking into a new way of bringing life to life. to objects.

In 2019, the two friends are imagining a large number of variations for their professions in industry, with the idea of ​​creating tailor-made parts for machine tools. A well-crafted strategy in view of the needs in the industry and then the health crisis interferes with travel restrictions and especially access to numerous industrial prospects. MK3D will also imagine a whole series of objects printed using corn starch for hospitals and nursing homes, including a specific door handle to protect against any risk of contamination and of course the famous visors.

At the same time, Karim Curtheley, keen to keep his head and hands busy, began to make a first vase for his wife… and that was the trigger!

Corn starch and reconstituted wood fiber (the two raw materials) will suddenly take a completely different turn, far from their primary mission focused on the industrial sector. Born then MK l’atelierthe eco-responsible decoration part of MK3D.

Eco-responsible in more than one way, firstly by the nature of its raw materials, the zero waste of the activity, the very low electricity consumption of 3D printers and the concentration on a very small land area, to the point that the 3D printers are operating at full speed within the SaôneOr Enterprise Space, where the Chalonnaise company has taken up residence.

A Sub-Prefect amazed by the diversity of the proposals

Karim and Vincent never stop finding new possibilities with 3D printing. Between all the array of vases, planters, pencil holders, the variations can be imagined endlessly, both in terms of shapes and colors. The only constraint for the moment, pending further technical developments, is for dry flowers, water being currently prohibited in the containers.
