If Covid-19 has never really disappeared, cases are increasing and instructions in the event of symptoms are hammered out, as we explain in this article.

While a new variant, XEC, appeared this summer in Germany and faced with this epidemic rebound, health authorities are also highlighting the fall vaccination campaign : it will take place in France from October 15, 2024 to January 31, 2025 at the same time as the flu vaccination campaign. It is also strongly recommended that people at risk of developing severe forms of Covid-19 be vaccinated, in order to be immunized against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, insist the health authorities.

The vaccination campaign against Covid-19 will begin on Tuesday October 15, 2024 for mainland France, Guadeloupe, and Guyana.

Particularly concerned:

  • People aged 65 and over;
  • People including infants from 6 months, children, adolescents and adults with comorbidities having a higher risk of serious form of the disease (complicated arterial hypertension, cardiac, vascular, hepatic, renal, pulmonary problems, diabetes, obesity, cancers , transplant recipients, people with Down syndrome or psychiatric disorders or dementia);
  • Immunocompromised people;
  • Pregnant women;
  • Residents in accommodation establishments for dependent elderly people (Ehpad) and long-term care units (USLD);
  • People at very high risk of serious illness according to each individual medical situation and as part of a decision shared with the healthcare teams;
  • People living in close proximity to or in regular contact with immunocompromised or vulnerable people, including professionals in the health and medico-social sectors.

The High Authority for Health (HAS) also recommends vaccination for students and professionals in the health sectors (working in establishments or self-employed), students and professionals in the emergency and fire services (in particular professional and volunteer firefighters). or even professionals in regular contact with immunocompromised or vulnerable people.

Is it free?

But if a person is not on this list and wishes to be vaccinated, they can also benefit free of this vaccination.

Vaccination is 100% covered for everyone.

Six months (or even three months) after the last infection

The vaccine can be given from six months after the last infection or injection of vaccine against Covid-19. A period reduced to three months for people aged at least 80, immunocompromised patients, and residents in nursing homes and USLDs (long-term care units).

According to the General Directorate of Health, it is the Comirnaty® JN.1 vaccine (Pfizer) which will be the only mRNA vaccine distributed during this 2024 winter campaign.

Each booster allows you to regain optimal protection against severe forms. In fact, the effect of this booster decreases after a few months, which means that immunity is no longer optimal. And this current vaccine would be better suited to the strains currently in circulation.

In order to facilitate the broadest vaccination coverage, these vaccines can be administered by a doctor, a nurse, a midwife, or a pharmacist, therefore in a doctor’s office, hospital or pharmacy.
