Vietnam believes in multilateral cooperation and international solidarity

Vietnam’s permanent delegation to the UN, WTO and other international organizations in Geneva held a ceremony on September 27 to mark the 79e National Day of Vietnam (September 2, 1945-2024).

More than 300 guests attended the event, including Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Do Hung Viêt; Ambassador Mai Phan Dung, head of the Vietnamese delegation in Geneva; and the Vietnamese ambassador to Switzerland, Phung Thê Long; as well as ambassadors and permanent representatives from various countries, leaders of international organizations based in Geneva, the Swiss business world and numerous intellectuals and Vietnamese residents in Switzerland.

Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Do Hung Viet expressed his joy at participating in the celebration of Vietnam’s National Day in Geneva, the venue for the signing of the Geneva Accords on the end of the war and the restoration of peace in Indochina.

Recalling Vietnam’s historic milestones in its journey of nation-building and development, the official said: “Vietnam’s current success would not have been possible without the cooperation, support and assistance of the countries, international organizations, non-governmental organizations and other partners and friends represented here today. COVID-19 to the devastation caused by Typhoon Yagi, we are deeply grateful for your support. This exemplifies the best of international solidarity and cooperation.”

He noted that with the enormous challenges currently facing the world, international solidarity and cooperation are more essential than ever. This is also the main message that Vietnam brought to the recent Summit for the Future held in New York. Vietnam will maintain its contributions to promoting international cooperation, particularly in the work of the United Nations.

Vietnam is currently participating in the 57e session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) and is also seeking support for his re-election to the Council for the 2026-2028 term, he said, expressing his hope to count on the invaluable support of the international community.

Ambassador Mai Phan Dung stressed that as a current member of the HRC for the 2023-2025 term, Vietnam will continue to promote and protect human rights and further contribute to the collective work of the international community. , particularly within the Council.

During the ceremony, the Vietnamese delegation exhibited several artworks and photos highlighting the Vietnamese country and people, presented traditional music and several traditional Vietnamese dishes.
