This fall, the Mafa ( America Friendship House) located at 2, Place desUnis, is offering us an artistic journey into the great outdoors. She is happy to present upstairs at the Maison du tourisme until November 16the exhibition entitled: Botany, by Maria Xavier-Alves.

You will be able to admire with pleasure this new temporary exhibition which is held in Château-Thierry. She presents a series of drawings and watercolors created by Maria Xavier-Alves, a self-taught artist from Portugal who has lived in the Valley since her childhood.

Botanical works

The opening of this remarkable exhibition in many respects took place on Saturday September 21 at the end of the morning. It was held in the presence of the artist, Sébastien Eugène, mayor and departmental councilor, Frédéric Jacquesson, deputy mayor in charge of culture and numerous guests.

Maria Xavier-Alves, a professional caregiver, began her artistic practice during the Covid-19 period, finding a moment of liberation in drawing. This first personal exhibition presents a series of botanical works, produced with great finesse and precision, inspired by the flora of the south of Aisne. The artist spent three years observing the plants and flowers around him, first drawing them on postcard-sized cards before giving them more scale on different papers.

Wild plants

His works, whether representing wild plants or grown in his own garden, demonstrate his search for a style and his exploration of drawing techniques. This exhibition is truly inspiring, highlighting the importance of reinventing yourself and discovering new passions. Come and discover the work of Maria Xavier-Alves until mid-November and let yourself be amazed by the beauty of nature captured in her drawings and watercolors.
