Covid-19, flu… Everything you need to know about this fall’s vaccination campaign

The vaccination campaign against Covid-19 and influenza will be conducted jointly from October 15, 2024 in mainland , Guadeloupe, and Guyana, the Ministry of Health informs in a press release. It has already started, since September 10, in Mayotte.

Regarding Covid, a “new vaccine from the State stock is made available to pharmacies, for ordering from September 23 in the morning to September 24 at 11 p.m.”

  • 2 Who can get vaccinated?

The vaccination campaign primarily concerns all people aged 65 and over; people aged 6 months or over with comorbidities at higher risk of severe forms of the disease (complicated high blood pressure, chronic heart disease, cancer, etc.); immunocompromised people; pregnant women; residents in residential care facilities for dependent elderly people (Ehpad) and long-term care units (USLD).

But also the relatives of immunocompromised or vulnerable people, including professionals in the health and social-medical sectors.

Please note that anyone wishing to be vaccinated, even if they do not meet the target criteria, can also receive an injection against Covid-19 and influenza, without a prescription, while supplies last. Vaccination is then possible for adults and children without risk factors (from 5 years old for Covid and from 2 years old for influenza). A single dose is usually sufficient.

  • 3 When can you get vaccinated?

Interested persons can be vaccinated “from 6 months after their last infection or injection of the Covid-19 vaccine. This period is reduced to 3 months for immunocompromised persons and persons aged 80 or over, due to their immune deficiency”, specifies the Ministry of Health.

  • 4 Can you get vaccinated on the same day for the flu and Covid-19?

Yes, but in this case it is advisable to do each vaccination on a different arm. Vaccinations can also be done on distant dates.

  • 5 Where to get vaccinated?

For residents of nursing homes and long-term care units (USLD), vaccination is done on site. For others, it can be done in a pharmacy, by a doctor, a nurse, a midwife or even a dentist without a medical prescription.

For children under 11, vaccination is carried out by a doctor.

  • 6 How much does it cost?

The flu vaccine is free for target people with the voucher provided by Health Insurance. For others, it is paid. It costs €6 to €10.

Vaccination for Covid-19 is covered by health insurance.
