Culture in Serres-Castet: start of the season at Belvédère

Spectators will, in turn, have to be patient for this new season: the Alexis Peyret theater will remain closed until the beginning of 2025. Major work is being carried out there, which concerns the stage floor and heating. It is an essential project after thirty-two years of operation and a colossal investment for the municipality: some 200,000 euros. These works will certainly not be the last: changing the lights to LEDs is planned, as is that of the “grill”, a technical stage structure. The renovation of the social center hall is also in the works.

Local artists

Always supported by its institutional partners (municipality, Departmental Council, intercommunity), the programmers of the Alexis Peyret theater will therefore not be able to organize the Theater and Chocolate festival in November, but there is no question for them of ignoring the first part of the season . It was important to “keep a link with the public”, insists the director of the social center. Three shows are planned for October 25, November 23 and December 7, at the Belvédère, which offers 140 seats, half the capacity of the Alexis Peyret theater. It should reopen at the end of January 2025 with the story of the relationship between Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin”, the latest professional creation by Cliff Paillé, founder of Vice Versa.

“Local artists”, specifies Véronique Alzieu, member of the culture commission and kingpin of “Théâtre et Chocolat” were invited to the Belvédère: the multi-instrumentalist from Béarn Alain Larribet, the storyteller from Marie Tomas with “The suspended key” and Hasparren’s word juggler Jean-François Balerdi.

Marie Tomas, the Pau storyteller will tell the story of a life in “The Hanging Key”.

The program for young audiences has been completed, with Cie Rouge Virgule, Cie ToutDroitJusqu’auMatin, and Kôhba for “Animaux totem”. Mediation actions will be specified, and it is this link with the public that the social center wants to develop in its regular season.

“Atypical” structure

The social center thus decided to take advantage of the break imposed by the work by initiating “a reflection on cultural programming”, explains Dominique Parat, who recalls the specificity of the “atypical” cultural structure: the programming is done by a collective of ‘residents, and we are in a social center! »

During this break, the programmers will “weave links between culture and society, develop projects with families and young people”, deepen relationships with surrounding cultural structures, and propose “coherence between the thematic weeks proposed by the social center and shows,” says Véronique Alzieu.

“What we want with this time for reflection is to be one step ahead,” explains Dominique Parat. It won’t be a waste of time…
